Friday Fun (on a Monday): The Best of You Need to Hear This
Due to operator error, this post that was intended for Friday is going up today. On the plus side, treating Monday like Friday sounds kind of nice until you wake up tomorrow and it’s still only Tuesday.
Today the Friday fun is a retrospective of the best music from my You Need to Hear This series of posts. I love all of the bands that I cover as part of the series, but I feel like these three are worth bringing up again. Enjoy.
First up is The Frontier Brothers. I can’t stop listening to their music. Of late it has become the soundtrack to my drive home. Off of their You Should Start a Band EP, here is “You Should Start a Band”, and I have to say that I am kind of in love with this video. It’s far and away my favorite use of bear costumes in a music video.
Next up is Damion Suomi and The Minor Prophets. Their Go and Sell All of Your Things album is absolutely incredible. Here is “Dog from Hell (and His Good Advice)” performed live back in May in Baton Rouge. This is a different video than I had posted before. It’s a little longer that the other. The sound quality isn’t great, but it’s a whole lot more fun and lively than that other video I had posted before. I can’t want to see this guys live.
Cursive is a band I only heard of recently, but that’s only because I’ve been missing out. They’re a fantastic group with over a decade making music together. This video is pretty great, too. It’s “From the Hip”. I love the lyrics of the song and the music they’re set to. They’re so good in fact, that I’m not going to worry about ending that last sentence in a preposition.
To all of these great bands, I say come to Southern California. More specifically, come play in Orange County, but not at the Grove in Anaheim because it’s a really annoying venue with a really bad layout.
