President Obama (finally) speaks out in favor of same sex marriage

In an interview with ABC News, President Obama was stated that he supports same sex marriage.  I say it’s about time he stood up for civil rights.  Honestly, I just went from “I guess I’m voting for Obama” to “I”m going to volunteer for the Obama campaign. Obama 2012!”  Now let’s bring down DOMA and get this country back on track.  Privileges for some means equality for none.

To those who oppose same sex marriage, the rest of us don’t want to be subject to your religious beliefs, and the Constitution of the Unites States of America  protects us from them.  Do what you want at home and in church, just stop telling the rest of us that we have to do it too.

From ‘Worst Company’ to civil rights crusaders in under 24 hours?

I am no fan of EA’s business practices and, apparently, neither is anyone else.  Until just a little while ago, I thought they were the poster boy for everything that’s wrong with the video game industry: disc-locked content, nickel and diming with regular DLC, and a host of other issues that gamers everywhere could go on and on about.  However, in the spirit of giving credit where credit is due, it was important that I share this with you.  EA made it clear last week in an interview with GameIndustry International that they stand by their choice to include LGBT characters in their games and will not cave to pressure from the very vocal, hateful minority that has nothing better to do that complain about LGBT characters in media.

Over the past few years, EA has come under pressure from socially conservative groups because the Mass Effect games, and some other EA RPGs, allow players to control characters that can pursue same-sex relationships.  These groups cite the usual “but what about the children?!?” argument, which is wrong for a number of reasons.  The most obvious of which is there is nothing wrong with being gay.  Clearly, this game isn’t for children.  It’s rated M for Mature and lists the reasons why it received that rating right on the box.  Moreover, it’s a role playing game, so you decide whether or not the character you create will be gay.  It is not a requirement to beat the game.  In spite of reality, EA receives complaint letters anytime LGBT characters are included in games.  Fortunately for those of us who are not the mindless tools of a culturally regressive movement, EA will not bow to what it describes as “political harassment”.

Good job, EA.  Now about Origin…

Family Research Council Condemns Star Wars: The Old Republic Over the Option to Play as a Gay Character

I don’t play MMORPGs.  I have tried them in the past but found that they just weren’t for me, so I never expected to write anything at all about Star Wars: The Old Republic.  Then today I read that Family Research Council president Tony Perkins has come out against Star Wars: The Old Republic because it allows same-sex relationships in the game.  No graphic sex acts are depicted and the game does not force anyone to play as a homosexual character, but even if it did, no one is holding a gun to your head and making you play the game.  It seems the Family Research Council is okay with murdering people and aliens with light sabers and laser guns but draw the line at consensual romantic relationships between adults.  Family Research Council president Tony Perkins said in his broadcast that “Bioware had made it clear in 2009 that ‘gay’ and ‘lesbian’ don’t exist in the Star Wars universe.”  Well anyone who played 2003′s KOTOR could tell you that homosexuality has been part of the Star Wars universe for a while now.  In that game, a single-player RPG, players going through the game as a female character could engage in a same-sex romance with a non-player character called Juhani (pictured above).

Family Research Council, I admittedly will never be able to empathize with people like you who hate and seek to oppress others based on race, religion and sexual orientation, but I do know this: bigotry isn’t, never has been, and never will be a family value.
